Hive Scale Project: Lessons from Weight Watchers
Annie Krueger is currently a PhD student in the department of Entomology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She has stepped away from the bee world to study the effects of chemical stress on monarch butterflies.
Annie has spent the past eight years evaluating the effects of pesticides on both honey bees bumble bees. Her experience with honey bees began at a contract lab where she conducted honey-bee studies for EPA and participated in international studies developing new methods for honey bee testing. During this time she assisted in managing over 100 hives for testing and sideline pollination services across the eastern shore of Maryland. She went on to receive her B.S. in Zoology at the University of Wyoming where she spent three years researching the effects of imidacloprid on bumble bee behavior and cold tolerance.
After graduating, she worked for Bayer in the pollinator safety group for 2 years conducting exposure and effect studies with honey bees and bumble bees. During her time at Bayer she started the hive scale project where she met many of you! At this meeting she will be sharing some of the findings from this project.
