6:30 pm – Beginner Workshop: Preparing for Competitions with Kim Rossi. All beekeepers are invited to this informative pre-meeting workshop about entering and competing in competitions at the state fair.
7:30 pm – WCBA Meeting with speaker Dr. Jon Romeo on the topic of “Bee Sting Allergy: A Primer for Beekeepers”
Beekeepers have an increased risk of allergic reactions to honey bee stings as compared to the general population. This talk will focus on the different types of reactions that can occur after being stung, with a concentration on life threatening systemic reactions (anaphylaxis). We will review the best way to treat anaphylaxis in order to reduce the risk for a poor outcome. Finally, we will discuss venom allergy testing and venom allergy shots as a long-term treatment to prevent future serious reactions.
Dr. Jonathan Romeo is an Allergist that practices at Allergy Partners of the Triangle, with locations in Raleigh and Cary. He is board certified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology and the American Board of Pediatrics.
